There was a fire in my building. According to the newspaper it was started by a grease fire, which spread to the surrounding units. 4 or 5 of the units have been condemned by inspectors me being 1 of the unlucky ones. According to legal aide my owners insurance company is not responsible for any of my loses due to the fire (that would be covered by renters insurance if I had any), However they are responsible for putting me up while my apartment is being renovated. My owner hasnt returned any calls and its been almost 2 weeks. I've been advised to find the name of his insurance co and talk to them myself. Does anyone know how i can find out who is his insurance provider? All help is appreciated & thanks in advance.

Sorry for your loss. This scenario is common…first of all this
is privileged information regarding finding out the name of your landlords carrier. Here is what I would do.

Go down to the city Hall . Look for the title/ deed unit and look up the address of the building. this should show the owner and in some cases the mortgagee of the building (but not always). If the owner had a mortgage on the building then he would have needed to have insurance. call a lawyer and have him write a letter to the owner of the building…that he wants the name and address of the insurance company.

Anyway…….It is a good chance your landlord only has Property Coverage on the building and not liability, If it was his fault (the grease fire) then his liability would kick in.

Guess I need more details to help you out.

I mean if you were talking to your wife in another room about how you thought the snack food you were eating tasted icky you would be then liable to a lawsuit for defamation.”

What happens if i have an accident and i want to go forward and the other driver does the same?
Will my insurance company go to court against itself??
Will they advise each driver to accept responsability, raise the premium and say nothing?
Do they bennefit? How?
i know what you all are saying but my point is: - When everything is sorted, we (both involved) will pay more insurance premium, therefore, the company will profit from 2 when it should from only one.
Rip off!!

This should mean that you are able to settle your claim much more efficiently than if you have two different companies to deal with, so it works in your favor.
People have absolutely NO IDEA just how highly regulated the insurance industry is. They can be and are audited by each state's DOI (Department of Insurance) ALL THE TIME. If ANYTHING is found to be unfair or outside regulated guidelines in any way that company pays very stiff fines (in the $1000's of dollars for each and every occurrance) so WHY ON EARTH would they "advise each driver to accept responsibility, raise the premium and say nothing?"!!! They could lose their right to even do business in that state!! Get REAL!!!

I want to get them both through the same company because they give you discounts rates. The insurance will be for two cars and include my wife on the account. Is there an easy place to compare rates?

We had Allstate for several years and when we purchased our new home and car, we decided to compare rates. Allstate was the highest. Nationwide was okay, but they required a membership to the Farm Bureau to get their rates??!!?? We went with State Farm. We got more coverage for less money than any other place we compared.

I called a friend earlier this week to buy insurance. He gave me a quote I like, and tomorrow I want to go ahead and get the car. Do I just call my friend and tell him I'm buying it, and will need the insurance?
I don't have insurance (right now). My fiance is going to be financing the car w/me, and he does have insurance on his other car. Does that help?

usually the place you buy the car has their own insurance on the car and they tell you at signing that you have a certain amount of time to go and get your own insurance. Plus the dealer usually requires you to have full coverage insurance on your car if you are financing. Good luck and enjoy your new varoom varoom!
